Naplňování cílů udržitelného rozvoje veřejných vysokých škol v České republice
Horáková, Vladěna
The bachelor thesis deals with sustainable development of public universities in the Czech Republic. The aim of the thesis is to find out how universities are meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to identify their weaknesses in this area based on a comparison with leading international universities and to propose recommendations for improvement. The data were provided in the form of mapping forms by the UNILEAD project and subsequently processed through qualitative research in the MAXQDA program. Analysis of the data revealed that meeting of the goals varied across areas and from a university-wide perspective was mostly in the initiation phase. Through the output of the forms and comparison with leading international universities were identified weaknesses in their operational activities, particularly lack of finance and human resources, lack of strategy and responsible person, and inconsistency. In relation to the weaknesses were proposed recommendations to eliminate them – the establishment of a new position of sustainability manager or sustainability team and drawing up a strategic plan for sustainability. Once these steps are implemented, universities should see improvements in their sustainability performance.

Škanderová, Taťána ; Machovcová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Smetáčková, Irena (referee)
This master thesis investigates how student identity of college students whose parents do not have university degree is constructed and further developed. The aim is to find out what meanings, factors, resources, actors and identities enter and influence the process of building and developing their student identity. It focuses on turning points, which are accompanied by a change in their own identity and uncertainty in their own social and cultural world. The theoretical part of the work is focused on defining and describing the specific characteristics of college students with parents without a college degree, the problem of a deficit perspective on them and the specifics of first-generation students in more prestigious fields of study. The following sections deal with social and educational inequalities from a historical point of view in the Czech context and from the point of view of critical social psychology. The conclusion is devoted to identity, which is viewed from three theoretical perspectives, namely from the perspective of social identity theory, from the perspective of social constructivism, and from the sociocultural developmental perspective on identity changes. In the empirical part, repeated semi-structured in-depth interviews and photo diaries were used to collect data. The...

It is therefore essential that they feel comfortable here and that their studies have as few obstacles as possible. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to describe the access of foreigners to education in the Czech Republic, to find out how the adaptation process of foreigners to a new environment can be influenced, and to describe the integration and educational barriers of foreigners actively studying at universities in the Czech Republic. Sudková, Tereza ; Hanušová, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Blažková, Veronika (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of the impact of employment on the studies of full-time students at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The theoretical part of the introduction describes the development of tertiary education and the field of pedagogical disciplines, the issues related to balancing study and work life, the reasons why not only full-time students opt for employment, and finally, how this affects their studies and related activities. The practical part of the thesis presents the results of a quantitative research study, which was conducted through an anonymous online questionnaire involving 160 respondents who met the given conditions (full-time study, 2nd or higher year at the Faculty of Education, Charles University). The main research objective was to determine the impact of employment intensity and compatibility on the studies of full-time university students at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The results showed that 148 respondents were employed during their studies, of which 96 worked in a compatible job. These respondents who worked during their studies were not significantly affected by the intensity of their employment on the number of hours spent studying and self-studying, unlike respondents who had incompatible employment. For the latter group,...
Professional training of pre-service teachers of biology in the field of scientific skills
Nejedlý, Adam ; Veteška, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Svobodová, Zuzana (referee)
In many cases, understanding the nature and validity of information presented on the basis of scientific knowledge is essential for application in contemporary society. Similarly, in line with the rapidly developing fields of science, technology and engineering, it is necessary to have enough competent people prepared to work in these areas. Consequently, scientific skills appear to be an essential component of scientific literacy, the development of which is the focus of pupil education in many countries. Teachers' attitudes towards the importance of scientific skills play a crucial role in pupils' education, as perceptions of their importance are the starting point for conveying their relevance to pupils and subsequently for their development. It is also important that teachers feel competent enough to teach these skills. A prerequisite for this is that they receive good and sufficient preparation in teacher education. The aim of the research was to characterize the professional training of biology teachers in the field of scientific skills. A content analysis of the annotations and syllabi of the courses in the study programmes was carried out. To determine attitudes, a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate students' perceptions of the importance, self-competence, and higher...
Organizational climate, competing values and employee well-being
Zábrodská, K. ; Mudrák, J. ; Machovcová, Kateřina ; Cidlinská, Kateřina
The concept of organizational climate may facilitate an understanding of relationships between work environment and employee well-being. In the paper, we present a research project focusing on organizational climates at academic workplaces and their relationship with employee well-being. We implemented the Competing Values model as the theoretical framework and a mixed-methods research design including large-scale questionnaire study and in-depth interviews. Based on k-means cluster analysis of the questionnaire data, we identified four types of organizational climate (“self-actualizing”, “collegial”, “performance”, “fraternity”) localized in the dimensions of the Competing Values model (flexibility-control, internal-external focus). We found significant differences between the ways in which members of these types perceived their work environment and well-being. Based on the interviews we discuss some psychosocial processes taking place between different organizational climates and employee well-being.
Financial support for students in higher education in the Czech Republic: a system overhaul is required
Münich, Daniel ; Kořínek, Otakar
Financial support for students in higher education in the Czech Republic has not received the attention it deserves over the past decade. Not only has the general public lost little sleep over this matter, but academics and politicians have largely ignored it, too. Information, statistics, and analysis of the targeting and impacts of current student financial support are at best piecemeal and at worst non-existent, which is symptomatic of the little public and policy interest in this matter. As a result, over the past few years there have been only a few minor tweaks made to the existing outdated and underfunded system. International comparisons show that the total amount of financial support for students in the Czech Republic is very low. A large share of that support is also provided across-the-board, meaning that support for the most socio-economically needy students and prospective students is very low. The average total monthly support provided both directly and indirectly to students under 26 years of age is between some 5,300 CZK [euro 200] for those from the poorest backgrounds and 2,700 CZK [euro 110] for others. Support for students aged 26 and above is only around 500 CZK [euro 20] per month, regardless of their economic background. In European comparison, the support for socio-economically weak students is extremely low. Only a very small proportion of students are eligible for publicly funded social scholarships, which provide only minimal financial support in any case. No data is currently collected on the demographic or social status of scholarship recipients. Similarly, there is no data measuring the extent to which children from poorer backgrounds are deterred from university study by the low level of available support. The amount of funding made available through social scholarships and the breadth of the pool of students eligible for them is not regularly increased in response to inflation or students' rising living costs, but is revised in connection with ad hoc raises made to the minimum wage and living wages.
